Habous District – Moroccan Dirham

During your stay in Casablanca, you will need to rent a car. This will allow you to easily reach the Habous district, one of the most important areas of the city.

Alongside the Hassan II Mosque, another must-see in Casablanca is the entire Habous district. Located in the heart of Casablanca, just south of the port, the Habous district is relatively “new” as it was built under French protectorate in the 1920s. Respecting the traditional structure of a Moroccan medina, the Habous district is therefore a kind of modern medina.

Souk, pastry shops, and royal palace

Once home to the city's merchants, the Habous district is now a popular neighborhood that's perfect for strolling around. Here you will find craft shops, pastry shops, tea rooms, several bookshops, a souk, and even the royal palace. Obviously, the palace cannot be visited, but you can admire the building from the outside before enjoying a mint tea on the terrace of an adjacent café.

The Habous district is not very large. However, to fully enjoy it, you should plan to spend several hours there, so you can stroll around.

Dollar Morocco's tip: rent a compact car to get to the Habous district and park easily.
