Borj Nord: A 16th century fortress in Fez

To the north of the city of Fez, is one of the most impressive historical monuments in the region. This is the North Burj, a fort built in 1582, under the order of the Saadian sultan Ahmed Al-Mansur. Inspired by the Portuguese fortresses of the same period, Fort Burj Nord has a square plan and has four bastions with protruding angles (bastions called "spearhead.") as well as a terrace built to withstand the fire of the guns.

A museum of weapons

Fort Burj North is now home to the Museum of Arms. This museum chronologically exhibits all kinds of weapons and military instruments used from the Stone Age to the twentieth century. The North Burj is open every day except Tuesday. And the price of an entrance fee is 10 MAD.
