Hammam in Morocco

In the Moroccan culture, the hammam (the Moroccan spa) holds a very important place. Going to the hammam is a tradition, a ritual rooted in the daily life. People don't go to the hammam daily but frequently, to take care of themself, to relax and to connect with the community. In Morocco, the hammam indeed has a hygienic role but also and especially a social role. Men usually go there in the morning and in the evening, whereas women meet there in the afternoon.

An old tradition

Introduced in Morocco by the Romans, the hammam became culturally major with the expansion of Islam and it is still today very popular. The hammam consists of various shower-rooms, and spa rooms.
