Agadir is one of the most primary cities in Morocco. Its origins date back to the second century BC.C, but the name "Agadir" does not appear until the beginning of the sixteenth century when the Portuguese founded a fortress and a trading post. Less than a century later, in 1572 to be exact, Sultan Moulay Abdallah el-Ghalib ordered the construction of a Kasbah to preserve the city from invasions.

The fortified attic

The Kasbah of Agadir (also known as Agadir Oufella) is first and foremost a place of commerce. The winding streets of the fortress are inhabited by merchants and merchants from France, England, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, and the Netherlands. The place is even nicknamed "the fortified attic of Morocco." The Kasbah of Agadir was one of the liveliest places in the kingdom, until the earthquake of 1731. Despite repairing the damage, the city subsequently declined. Agadir did not reappear on the world stage until the beginning of the twentieth century, thanks to the French protectorate.
Currently, the Kasbah of Agadir is simply a fortress in ruins. Placed on a hill, it dominates the city and is lit at night. It can be admired from the center of Agadir, but it is equally easy to get there by car to explore the site and enjoy the view of the ocean.
